SF Community Power was founded in 2001 with a $1.5 million grant from the San Francisco Department of the Environment. We originally focused on the Bayview-Hunters Point and Potrero Hill neighborhoods, providing energy management services to low-income families and small businesses, training under- and unemployed individuals in the neighborhood to implement energy conservation measures, creating the award-winning Treasure Trek, and successfully advocating for closure of the Hunters Point Power Plant and to stop the expansion of the Potrero Power Plant. Over the past several years, and with funding support from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, California Energy Commission, and California Public Utilities Commission, among others, we've expanded to serve homes and businesses throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, and to pilot cutting-edge ways to better manage our scarce resources.
